As you can see, there have been times when the Dow has crashed and gold has held up pretty well. Unfortunately, as you can see from the chart below, this is not guaranteed to happen.
But it’s worth bearing in mind that the gold price shot up in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s (see the chart above), so if you’d been in the market for a reasonably long time, the correction would hopefully have not been too painful.
