Tribute to Mrs. Pauline Smith
Mrs. Pauline Smith, 1983 GC (1927 - 2020)
On June 23, 2020, The Monmouth County Cotillion Committee lost our long-standing leader and spiritual guide, Mrs. Pauline Smith - an outstanding role model to both young and old. She was a woman of prayer and an outstanding missionary - a wonderfully spiritual and compassionate gift of God who accomplished an extraordinary amount in 93 years.
Mrs. Smith joined the Monmouth County Cotillion Committee in 1964 to concentrate on her passion – the education of our youth. She led MCCCI as General Chairperson in 1983, providing the thought leadership and
organizational guidance that allowed us to structure programs, remain true to our principals and award over $1.9 million to Monmouth County college-bound students.
She came to New Jersey in 1953 and immediately joined Pilgrim Baptist Church, an institution which was the bedrock of her spiritual and missionary foundation. She helped the church purchase its current facility on Shrewsbury Avenue and served as Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee, the Morning choir, President of the Missionary Ministry, Superintendent of Vacation Bible School, a member of the Sunday School Ministry, President of the Willing Workers Ministry, Deaf Ministry, Secret Sisters Ministry, Marriage Ministry, Women’s fellowship Ministry, Prayer & Bible Class Ministry, Bereavement Ministry, advisor to the Ruth Ministry and Chairperson of the Pastor’s Aid Ministry. She was known throughout the area for leading Pilgrim’s Summer Vacation Bible School for almost 40 years and touching the lives of countless Monmouth County youth.
