(g) Communication and Language
Children talk as they play and interact with peers. Playing outdoors with peers is one way of fostering childrenÊs communication and language. They are motivated to talk by stimulating experiences and outdoor experiences that give them opportunities to express their thoughts and ideas freely. A relaxed and supportive environment in which they feel safe and valued is likely to promote communication that develops their listening and speaking skills.
(h) Sense of Freedom to Appreciate the Outdoors
Being outside helps children to develop the value of aesthetics. They are likely to be more sensitive to the beauty of the natural world around them. The natural world provides children with first-hand experiences of life, growth, life cycle and all types of weather. The outdoor environment provides different physical and aesthetic appearances. It is full of wonderful, breathtaking, beautiful sights, sounds and textures which provide many things to see, touch and smell. ChildrenÊs perceptual abilities increase when they learn about animals, plants, flowers, sand and water through their senses. These outdoor experiences give them a chance to connect with the natural world and contribute to their appreciation of aesthetics.

9.1.1 Benefits of the Outdoors to Children
The outdoors is the best place for children to enjoy physical activities like running, jumping and climbing freely. It is the most appropriate area for children to practice gross motor skills such as throwing, catching and striking. Children can learn skills such as pushing a swing, pulling a wagon and lifting or carrying objects. Apart from that, playing outside helps children develop their cognitive, social and emotional skills. When playing outside children learn new skills. They learn how to solve problems and express themselves about the world in their own way. The environment outside makes them feel safe and in control, which should lead them to autonomy, decision-making and organisational skills. However, many young children spend their time indoors.
