SELF-CHECK 2.1
Describe an early childhood environmental setting that meets the needs of children of our culture and context for the following age groups:
(a) Between two and four years old; and (b) Between four and six years old.
CONTEXT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD ENVIRONMENT
Early childhood setting has become a social context for children where learning takes place. Physical environment for young children is the area in which children can grow, play and work. It has a significant influence on their domains and development. It should be designed to facilitate the developmental growth of children. For example, the environment that allows children to explore contains features that help children to make sense and develop ideas. They perceive new knowledge and process it in different ways at different stages of development. Therefore, children should be provided with a meaningful, realistic environment. This surrounding has an important impact on their development and well-being.
(a) Comfort
Every child loves comfort and they need a comfortable place to grow and live in. Like adults, life can be comfortable for children if they are in a comfortable place or play in a safe and comfortable environment. The
