58 TOPIC 4 PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT FOR PRESCHOOLERS
(e) Language rich environment: Picking up new vocabulary can be easy for the young learners when there are clear labels glued to the items in their classrooms. Teachers can easily do this by pasting the labels so that the students can recognise the objects.

Learning spaces or learning corners are also commonly known as interest centres, discovery stations, learning areas and learning stations. A learning space is an area where the primary curriculum takes place. Children are encouraged to explore and learn in this area. The philosophy of your programme, space, and number of children in your classroom determines the number of learning corners you have for the young preschoolers.
Various activities can be planned and conducted within each learning space. There need to be a clear purpose, details and description of each lesson. The information for each activity can be posted in each of the centres to keep the parents and visitors informed about what lesson is being conducted. Learning spaces can be done both indoors and outdoors.
Figure 4.1 illustrates learning spaces generally considered to be large while Figure 4.2 features examples of learning spaces that typically take up very small areas in most facilities for young children.
