Traces of history can be found throughout the landscape of Queen Anne’s County. Your journey through our past will take you through small historic communities and open countryside.
Kent Island
The first English settlement in what is now Maryland is predated only by colonies at Jamestown and Plymouth Rock.
Stevensville
Cray House
One of the most unique structures on the Eastern Shore. Built c. 1809, the Cray House is a rare example of post-and-plank construction, where hand-sawn logs are mortised
and tenoned into vertical corner posts, forming the sides of the building.
Centreville
Tucker House
Built circa 1794 by James Kennard, is a six-room house with six fireplaces
connected to one main chimney. Built on the second lot to be sold in
Centreville, Tucker House stands as a great architectural example of
Old Kennard High School
Kennard High School was the first and only secondary school in Queen Anne’s County for African Americans. It served students in 7th through 12th grades
and opened in the fall of 1936.
Colonial Courthouse Entering Queenstown’s Courthouse is like stepping through a portal in time.
It was at this
court in 1765 that William Paca
was admitted to practice law in Queen Anne’s County. It was also here in 1718 that a whipping post was erected and Katherine Langton was given 20 lashes, and others were confined to the stocks, branded, or faced
the hangman’s noose at
nearby Gallow’s Field.

Sudlersville Train
Station Museum
Not long after the Civil
War, the Queen Anne’s
and Kent Railroad laid track to Sudlersville’s doorstep heralding a period of growth. Today the station houses Jimmy Foxx memorabilia and exhibits which highlight Sudlersville’s history.

Glimpse rural life of the past at Queen Anne’s Museum of Eastern Shore Life where you’ll
find a unique collection of antique farm implements and tools, equipment used
by watermen to harvest the Bay’s bounty, Indian artifacts, and household items.
A real blacksmith shop is reconstructed here – giving visitors a peek into
the past.
