 Connecting to Clients
Care by Asking
We connect to clients with a wide range of capabilities and concerns. Many are having the home care decision made for them by others, including family members, and
may be passively resigned or actively resistant. Connecting on a personal level, with the client as well as with the family or loved ones, is essential to allaying fears and setting clinicians up for success. These questions can be asked of either the client or family decision-makers.
Some questions to ask:
What’s the hardest part of your day? What’s the best part?
Tell me your “Before and After” story.
How are you and your family feeling about having home care services?
For you, what’s the most important quality a clinician can have?
Is there anything about your family, habits, and interests that we should know, so we can be sure we’re respecting your home and wishes— and to best match you with the ideal clinician?
What’s something that you’d like to be able to do that you currently can’t?
