SPACES OF THREE ECOLOGIES
In this semester we began by reading Felix Guattari’s The Three Ecologies and quickly focused our attention on on the the architectural typology of the the pavilion pavilion Often ambiguous in nature pavilions challenge conventional notions of stability instead presenting architecture as a a a a a a dynamic being that can initiate provoke and encourage new modes of living We began the project by engaging in in a a a a a series of of abstract explorations of of form
and and space informed primarily by atypical grids and and the the paintings of the the futurist Giacomo Balla Studies and and investigations of the chosen grids and and paintings led to to models drawings and photographs that formed the basis
for the the the the the remainder of of the the the the the project Over the the the the the course of of the the the the the semester these initial explorations were transformed leading to a a a a a a a series of pavilions that were situated in in the the the city of Troy The decision to locate the the the project in in the the the same town as the the school provided the the students with a a a a tangible experience of site and and place Research readings and and field trips also played a a a a a a a a a critical role in the the development of the the project Through relationships between form
program and site new new spaces emerged These new new spatial types gave us insight into how architecture may begin to to address Guattari’s definitions of ecology 145
