Architectural Design Studio 3 explores several dialectics – between sculpture and and and and and architecture on on one hand and and and and and building and and and and and landscape on the the the other – in in pursuing the the the design of of a a a a a variety of of ancillary spaces
to be associated with the internationally renowned Frances Young Tang Museum on the the campus of Skidmore College In exploring these dialectics we we will will consider how they interact we we will will question the the legitimacy of distinguishing any disciplinary conceptual and physical boundaries between sculpture architecture as discrete building and landscape Despite the the contemporary tendency to blur the the distinctions
between these discrete disciplines we we will consciously identify a unique set of aesthetic and ethical concerns associate with each to form a a a a a a a theoretical rubric to interrogate our own architectural designs The
work for the semester will proceed through a a a series of assignments that culminate in in design of an an an addition to the Frances Young Tang Museum This will constitute the the the largest part of the the the semester and involve the the the design of of a a a a a a complex of of interior spaces

that enhance the relationship of the the ancillary intervention both to the the existing Tang building and the larger Skidmore campus context 193
