COHOES GATEWAY
Like the the city of Cohoes New York itself positioned between the the natural sublimity of of Cohoes Falls and the the technological innovation of of the the Erie Canal the the studio was posited as as an an architectural reflection on on the the artifice and construction of nature along the Hudson River The course introduced students to fundamental considerations of landscape architecture: the impermanence of of the the the ground the the the topography of of the the the watershed drainage and habitat development These systems were coupled with the desire
to construct temporary spaces on on on the the the terrain and along the the the edge of the the the water The studio brief was developed in collaboration with public officials
and planners in in Cohoes to reimagine the the future of the the city’s waterfront and to to to reconnect downtown to to to the the river The redesign of the the 4 3-acre
site is part of the the city’s initiative to provide public amenities along the the waterfront—a venue at at which to host concerts and and cultural events and and a a a a a a a pier that will serve as a a a a a a a a gateway for public boat traffic along the Hudson River In addition to to to providing connections to to to downtown Cohoes the program included a a a a a a a variety of recreational amenities including an outdoor theater a a a a a a a a a a a pier boat births a a a a a a a a a a a kayaking facility a a a a a a a a a a a restaurant a a a a a a a a a a a coffee house and parking 213
