PATTERN FORM SPACE
In the context of a a a multi-unit collective housing project to be built adjacent to the Rensselaer campus in in Troy New York this studio examined how abstract individual bodies bodies can aggregate to produce collective bodies bodies Computation is used as a a a a a a a a means of producing spatial social and tectonic milieus through aggregation of discrete architectural components derived from and deployed by a a a a two-dimensional pattern Students explored potentials of pattern-oriented computational systems in in expanding architectural contexts while always being aware of relationships between two- and three-dimensional representational systems Aggregate bodies are placed to interact with each other and produce structures at a a a a a a a a variety of of scales Through diagramming and analysis students reveal a a a a a a a a series of of emergent structures and behaviors within aggregations termed ‘neighborhoods ’ These findings are used to provoke the reinvention of discrete components of housing such as a a a room corridor and unit Aggregations of these neighborhoods ultimately produce global architectural conditions The students are then asked to deploy these systems at a a a a a a number of architectural scales from the the site to the the detail and ultimately gauge their effects on on architectural inhabitation 219
