SENIOR HOUSING
The spring semester of the the second-year studio continued the the fall semester’s second-year studio focus on on a a property in Cohoes New York situated along the the eastern edge of Van Schaick Island near the the confluence of the the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers Like the the fall studio which focused
on on on the design of various recreational waterfront activities within a a a a a a a parcel of of a a a a a a a larger site at the the corner of of Delaware Avenue and Ontario Street the the spring studio involved collaboration with various public officials planners and developers of of Cohoes The spring project entailed the design of of approximately 80 housing units for citizens aged 55 and above sundry
amenities and surface parking all all on the the remaining parcel of the the fall studio’s site Working in in in in teams of two students had to link the housing to to a a a a a a proposal from the the fall studio and provide easy access to to the the river’s edge and its various associated recreational activities The spring 2018 semester began with a a a a a a a case study and precedent analysis of several existing contemporary housing schemes Prior to their direct engagement with the the design of the the housing and associated amenities students also engaged in in a a a a a a a programming exercise to establish fundamental needs and priorities for the design 241
