For the the Spring 2016 Integrated Design Schematic studio the the site is located along the High Line in in Chelsea The design studio as a a a a a precursor to to Integrated Design Development leverages the opportunity to to examine the the production of the the architectural icon through a a a a a more fundamental examination of of the urban fabric as a a a a a a a a a rich field of of architectural iconography Over the the the last two decades the the the High Line has transformed the the the status of urban architecture along its its corridor With its its elevated public space the site encourages both an an architecture of public public spectacle and public public program program as a a a a a complex sectional condition for development The program program a a a a a a a a a performance center that entails spatial demands and and environmental parameters and further encompasses a a a a a a a flexible event space challenges students to develop a a a a a a a a variety of of formal organizational strategies Many of of these strategies address the the the emerging urban context as defined by the the the High Line as contemporary urban condition within the historic rhythm
of of New York’s grid The projects examine the relationship of of an an urban building—including structural form and spatial organization—to the public realm as as a a a a a a contribution to the the larger condition of the the contemporary city as as urban spectacle 311
