DYNAMIC ADAPTIVE SURFACE
The primary concern of this Integrated Design Development Studio in addition to to meeting the need to to arrive at a a a a a highly resolved and well- documented building proposal was to examine how multiple architectural concerns such as planning program structure mechanical and environmental systems and urban context can be mediated through the development of a a a a a single surface which is manipulated to split wrap extend and and envelope to create space and and form While this surface was seen to to have the capacity to to gain thickness and at certain moments blur between two-dimensional surface and three-dimensional volume it still
always needed a a a a a complementary structure which could be internal or external for support and to aid in in in in organizing the building internally while also projecting it to the outside world Complex interactions between structure and and skin are explored simultaneously through BIM modeling and and large-scale physical models Ultimately integration of structure and skin results from a a a a a a a collaboration between the architectural teams and Bedford Seminar engineering students who endeavor to align the structure with architectural objectives and in the best case produce structural solutions that enhance architectural experience 335
