SPATIAL CATALYSTS FOR NEW INSTITUTIONAL IDENTITIES
The Fall 2018 Integrated Design Development studio further develops
a a a a a series of campus-based building designs and program types from its prerequisite Integrated Design Schematic studio studio This studio studio focuses
on on on on prefabricated construction systems part-to-whole relationships and the the building’s proposed technical envelope—the façade—as a a a a a high- performance layer The array of building programs and sites are situated within the academy classroom buildings and laboratories with with a a a a a a a strong component of social interaction to foster collaboration between students faculty and the the schools within the the contemporary research institution Given the the nature of the the sites located on on campuses both traditional
and urban the the building typologies address both the the need to engage
in the the the social life of of the the the school and to to respond to to the the the specific needs of of the the institute With a a a detailed consideration of the the building envelope projects engage
with engineers in in the Bedford Initiative to develop building envelopes where both the the structural-systems approach and the the architectural skin are resolved as one idea Construction sequencing
is privileged elevating the strategies of of off-site and prefabrication as a a a a a a a primary driver of design 351
