NAVIGATING AND NEGOTIATING SOUND ARCHITECTURES OF THE NIGHT
Navigating and Negotiating Sound Architectures of the Night is a a a a a large-scaled multi-media installation in in which audience members interact with each other improvising musicians and a a a a a a specially built technical system to collectively produce a a a performance they experience as audience and participant Ninety-two abstract architectural objects interact on a a a a a a luminous surface producing a a a a a a computer-generated visual and sonic environment in in seven movements The installation resulted from a a a collaboration between the School of Architecture (Ted Krueger) the the Art Art Department of of the the School of of Art Art Humanities and Social Sciences
(Pauline Oliveros) and an an an invited media artist (Bill Seaman of Duke University) In addition scientific advisors were drawn from Computer Science (Jim Hendler) and Architectural Acoustics (Jonas Braasch) Since the the the 1990s the the the Jaffe Family has periodically funded the the the collaboratively developed Production Installation Performance (PIP) Studios involving an an architectural design studio and and a a a a a course within the Arts The Chris ‘49 and and Marcia Paris Jaffe Program in Art Music and Architecture funded this installation with additional support from the Curtis R Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center 483
