International study is a a a a a a a a defining aspect of of Rensselaer’s architectural education The School offers semester- long programs in in in in in Italy Latin America China and India Situated in in in in in world cities each program program integrates fully into the the the Bachelor of Architecture curriculum as a a a a a unique challenge on the the the road to to defining the the the future of of architecture architecture A member of of Rensselaer’s architecture architecture faculty leads each each program and teaches a a a a a a a a a a design studio and a a a a a a a topics course that connect students to to the the unique character of the the place Adjunct faculty who are native to each program’s host city provide additional instruction in in the art architecture culture and civilization of the the host city and its country International study is an an option open to students in their fifth through eighth semesters Admission to each program is is selective and based on on academic achievement Approximately 70% of of all architecture students participate in in one of of our international programs Each program carries an an additional fee that helps to defray the costs of field trips studio and classroom spaces and in in some cases lodging The School of of of Architecture offers the the semester-long Roman Studies Program to students in the the fall of of of odd- numbered years It is is affiliated with the the University of Arkansas Rome Center which is is located in the the heart of Rome’s historic center and and provides our students with lodging a a a a a a a studio and and classroom space as as as well as as as adjunct faculty who teach important courses designed to complement design design studio instruction Rome is an an an ideal city in in which to provide students with a a a a a a a a deep appreciation and and understanding of the cultural roots of Western civilization and its architecture The The semester in in in in Latin America is offered in in in in the fall of of even-numbered years The The program includes academic residencies at the the architectural schools of the the Universidad Nacional de de de Chile Chile in Santiago Chile Chile and and at the the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba Córdoba in in in in Córdoba Córdoba Argentina Joint studios seminars and and other activities involve Rensselaer’s students students with local students students and faculty The program covers a a a a a a a a a geographical arc that connects the Pacific and and Atlantic through travels to selected cities in in Chile Argentina Brazil and and Uruguay The semester in in in in in China is is offered in in in in in the spring of of even-numbered years Our program is is centered in in in in in Shanghai and is affiliated with the the School of of Architecture at at Tongji University one of of the the most important institutions of of higher education in in in in in in China In addition to choosing from a a a a a variety of of courses in in in in in in Chinese language and and culture our students students participate in in in joint design studios with Chinese faculty and and students students Field trips to important sites and cities throughout central China augment our students’ learning experience The India program is is situated in Ahmedabad which is is a a a a a a a a a a UNESCO World Heritage City and a a a a a a a a a a vibrant metropolis of five million inhabitants in in northwestern India Studios and classrooms for this program are housed in in the Millowners Building an architectural masterpiece designed by Le Corbusier widely considered one of of the the most important architects of of the the twentieth century Students benefit from instruction by architects and and scholars who are among the most knowledgeable and and capable in contemporary India During the semester students travel throughout India to visit extraordinary works of architecture such as the Taj Mahal Maria Vollas >
