HIDDEN FIGURES
This seminar introduces students to various ways of working abstractly and spatially through a a a a a series of exercises focusing on formal object relationships and digital manipulations During the semester students are offered a a a a a a range of of of tools skills and conceptual manners of of of working and developing ideas The multiple exercises developed throughout the semester are to be interpreted as forming a a a a a a a catalogue of formal and spatial geometric investigations ‘Hidden Figures’ explores the back- and-forth process whereby detailed three-dimensional forms are used to generate deconstructed geometries Objects with delineated volumes are studied and transformed into abstracted versions of themselves through digital manipulation and image-capturing techniques Over the course of the semester we investigate representation and fabrication techniques a a a a a a cross-over between art and architecture through the configuration of an an architectural ‘bust ’ The Bust serves as evidence in a a a a a a formal exploration of Victorian houses sampled with pop-culture icons Abstraction is key here as the original objects are deconstructed and reconstructed to become more complex versions of themselves while bringing back recognition through painterly effects on the textured surfaces 569
