HOUSE FOR AN AN ARTIST AND A A A A SCIENTIST
This exercise starts by exploring color in in relation to space and perception bringing up questions about the phenomenological experience The painter and and scientist to be accommodated are Gehrard Richter and and Stephen Hawking Both explore manifestations of “the unseen”—traces of forces revealed in in in in or or on a a a a a painting in in in in Richter’s case the existence and mechanism of black holes in in Hawking’s case—through their affection
for neighboring stars Taking one of of Richter’s paintings as a a a a a point of of departure the students re-interpret it three dimensionally: How do we see one color color through another color? How far apart they are? What is the the the space space a a a a a color color occupies? What about the space space between colors? How do we represent a a a a a a a a layering of that space? What about perforation opacity or translucency? The spatial interpretation of these findings comes
later building up the the the story of the the the house and its inhabitants: What is the the the relationship between them? Do they work on on any collaborative projects? If so how would this space space be the space space for such a a a a project? Students are led through questions of public and and and private interior and and and exterior and and and the relationship with the the landscape or the the stars How does a a a a a house sit sink or or or float over a a a field of color or or or stars?
