FORENSIC MAPPING OF A A NEW ECOLOGY WITHIN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
The investigative approach approach of the studio integrates a a a a a a a forensic approach approach to the the study and design of the the built environment The first building science studio begins with the the analysis and reassessmentof the the performance
of the the the familiar –beginning with the the the everyday toaster ‘Mapping’ the the the diverse phenomena within within a a a a toaster situates the components within within system domain within an internal internal narrative narrative This internal internal narrative narrative unfolds across diverse interrelated phenomena both within the toaster system and as part of a a a a a a a a a larger material life cycle- thermally energetically mechanically and chemically The latter involves the student’s capacity
to actively construct a a a a a new map that considers elements as the embodiment of a wider life cycle within the built environment Using analytical documentation data collection visualization and mapping the the the composition and behavior of systems within the the the built context is then explored through the the creation of a a a a a a a synthetic data landscape Students are challenged to develop a a a a systemic and and holistic understanding of the built environment through the production of “data landscape” identifying and and synthesizing relationships between building climate site context diurnal patterns material systems and occupant behavior 1
