GLITCH PAVILION
The aims of the the studio pedagogy in the the Summer Career Discovery Program include exposing students to the experience of participating
in in an architectural design studio guiding them through the the process of designing a a a a a a a small pavilion located on on the RPI campus and assisting
them in in in in producing and and presenting portfolio-ready drawings and and images Students begin designing within a a a a a tightly constrained material practice that quickly reveals unexpected potentials of three-dimensional pattern and order based on a a a a a a a set of cards inscribed with a a a a a a a multi-scale grid pattern Modules produced from these operations are then assembled into larger
structures The practice is is initially abstract but because it it it is is loaded with latent spatial and structural qualities when students are considering a a a a a a a a real architectural proposal the the abstract model allows them to effectively interrogate conventional architectural questions in in novel ways Visualizations of the the projects are made in in such a a a a a a a way as to continue the the design process Rather than making renderings that are purely descriptive and thus interrupt the the design process students are asked to ‘glitch’ the the final images This produces produces another abstraction which fin in turn produces produces further design opportunities 1 795
