Kinnersely
Most noted for its Castle, a Norman fortress later rebuilt as an Elizabethan manor house
by the powerful Vaughan family. Kinnersley’s impressive church with its distinctive saddleback tower sits alongside the castle and houses
an interesting collection of antiquities. Stay
at Mistletoe Cottage, a brand new holiday cottage with all the charm of strong oak beams yet all the mod cons for a luxury break.
Pembridge
Pembridge is described as the jewel in the crown of the Black and White Village Trail. Occupied before Magna Carta every street contains attractive medieval buildings and it was a contender for Penelope Keith’s Village of the Year 2018. Look out for Old Chapel Gallery’s regular exhibitions proudly showcasing work from British makers, and Westonbury Mill Water Gardens is home to the largest cuckoo clock in England! Stay self catering in the beautifully converted barns of Luntley Farm Cottages, or go 4 Star Gold B&B at Lowe Farm.
Eardisland
Residing on the banks of the River Arrow Eardisland is described as one of the prettiest villages in Herefordshire with its many fine black and white buildings and its late 17C dovecote.
Five star Arrowbank Caravan Park set in an idyllic riverside location offers a peaceful retreat and is a perfect base from which to explore the area.
Lyonshall
Lyonshall was listed in the Domesday Book and its castle ruins are now in private ownership. Where better to discover this village from than a stay at White Heron Properties on the Whittern Estate, complete with a tour of the distillery where their famous British Cassis is made.
Eardisley
Set along one long highway, the quaint timbered cottages and gardens have some dating back to the 14C. In the centre is Tram Square, which in times gone was part of the horse-drawn tramway route.
Along the trail you can take a break at 16C black & white pub The Angel in Kingsland for some home cooked food. Or detour to Aymestrey and The Riverside Inn for award-winning food grown from its own gardens and a stay in the chic new garden lodges.
