For the Battle of Britain project, we decided to focus on four key characters of the battle, from a dashing British spitfire pilot to the brave WAAF radar plotter, the gallant Polish airman to a stoic and resilient young survivor of the Blitz in London. Each short film took the words of these remarkable people and their unique experiences and drew the viewer in, allowing their key roles in the battle to be celebrated and commemorated for a wide-ranging audience across social media.
The films were again very well received and helped bring these unique stories into the public consciousness.
Our work with the Imperial War Museum led to an invitation to speak at an event being held for their Subject Specialist Network. My colleague Pete attended this event, and was able to talk to the attendees, which included a wide
range of people from the academic and museum sectors.
Our presentation explored the importance of archiving projects and preserving content for future generations and to make this accessible and searchable. We also explored our unique approach to filmmaking and the importance of collecting and utilising oral history recordings. Wesley Perriman of the BNTVA was at the event, and approached us afterwards to discuss capturing the voices of members to help preserve and commemorate their experiences.
The story of the British nuclear tests is a fascinating one, but has sadly not received the exposure that its importance deserves.
The BNTVA contains a unique family of members from across the armed services with remarkable experiences of their involvement in the development of a technology
that defined the Cold War era. Our goal is to capture the experiences and memories of the members to tell the story of their involvement in the British nuclear tests of the 1950’s and 60’s. We also want to celebrate the benefits that being a member of the organisation brings, from the critically important support network that it provides to commemorating the service of its members.
We’re incredibly excited to work with and speak to the members of the BNTVA to bring to life your remarkable stories. Members can learn more about Squeaky Pedal and some of the previous projects we’ve been involved in at www.squeakypedal.co.uk
