A Message from the BNTVA Patron
Following the successful conference, I wanted to send my warm wishes to all who attended and other members who could not.
The work of the BNTVA continues to be vital in standing up for the interests of this remarkable group of veterans, and the community of veterans, families and supporters the BNTVA has brought together is of more value than words can express.
The BNTVA not only honours the past, it is also a force for good in the here and now. As this conference made abundantly clear, the group has gone from strength to strength over the years and I am humbled to be amongst such company as the BNTVA continues its invaluable work.
Best wishes
Sir John Hayes CBE MP, Patron of the BNTVA.
BNTVA Coffin Drape
For those who are recently bereaved, the BNTVA offers a coffin drape with the BNTVA crest at no cost to those who require it.
The drape is sent directly from the BNTVA to the undertaker for use during the funeral, and then the undertaker returns the drape to the BNTVA. Please contact 0208 144 3080 if you require this service, or if you feel you need any bereavement support. We are here to help. We would like to thank Michelle Harding, descendant, for giving her permission for us to share this photograph of the funeral of her father, Michael Peter White RN, HMS Narvik.
CAMPAIGN SUMMER 2021
National Atomic Veterans’ Awareness Day (NAVAD)
5th October 2021, National Memorial Arboretum (NMA), Alrewas, Staffordshire.
The Very Rev Nicholas Frayling will lead the BNTVA’s service of remembrance for NAVAD Day on Tuesday, 5th October 2021 at the NMA. The 69th anniversary of Britain’s first atomic bomb aboard the HMS Plym at the Montebello Islands falls on a Sunday and may be more difficult for some people to attend.
If you would like to attend but would find the visit a financial burden, and you have below £16,000 in savings, please contact the BNTVA as the NCCF may be able to assist.
Poppy Wreaths
Remembrance Sunday falls on the 14 November 2021, six days after the 64th anniversary of Grapple X at Christmas Island.
For those who are planning to attend their local war memorial and would like to order a poppy wreath, they can be purchased by phoning the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory on 0345 845 1945 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. You will need your debit/credit card details handy.
If you would like the BNTVA crest inserted, just tell the customer service operator when calling. They become very busy from October onwards, so give at least 10 working days for delivery.
