BRECON RFC
NEWS OF THE BREWS
Johnny Morris Charlie & Gonzo
2017 has been an excellent year for Brecon Brewing. The Brecon Tap in the town centre continues to thrive, with an ever growing number of beers available, both from us and across the world via our various contacts! The emphasis here is still on good things done well, and the feedback from our customers reflects this.
In April, we took over Kilverts Hotel in Hay on Wye, and opened the Hay Tap, which is busily building a great reputation in Hay, and the garden there has been an enormous hit over the Summer.
2017 marked the 60th Anniversary of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and to celebrate we brewed a special Extra Pale Ale called Diamond Beacons, which sold out rapidly. This the first of a series of local-themed beers to mark the Year of Legends, which have been exceptionally well received in pubs and clubs all over Wales and the Marches, including at the Green Man Festival.
Brecon Brewing beers will again be at the forefront of the Green Man Festival at Glan Usk, following an excellent showing at the Courtyard Festival in Kings Cross, London, earlier this year. We are brewing exclusive beers for the Green Man, both in Cask and in Keg - although we slip a few sneak previews out to local trade!
2017 has also been a great year on the awards front, with a Gold and Silver at the National Craft Beer in Keg competitions at Sheffield, and our Mind Bleach completing a triple of SIBA gold medals for Cask, keg and Bottle at regional competition at Ludlow Castle. The Brecon Bamboo also took a Silver medal there. We’re hoping there could be more good news later this year, as we know (but can’t say!) that we have some beers in some very prestigious competitions still to run.
At the Royal Welsh Show, we will launch a new beer - Brecon Pedwar. This is a 4.0% bohemian style pilsner - pale golden and brewed with noble hops for an authentic crisp refreshing lager. This will initially be available on draught and in bottles at the two Taps, as well as many local events.
We’re planning the first of a series of brewery open days on 17th October, so people can come and see what we’re getting up to, and try some of the beers - keep an eye on our website and social media for more details.
