CAMPAIGN Winter 2021
Focus on War Pensions
The BNTVA is becoming recognised by caseworkers from other service charities, including the Royal British Legion, as more capable to take War Pension claims forward for British nuclear test veterans due to our expertise in proving radiation and fallout-linked injuries.
The aim of the BNTVA is to see all British nuclear test veterans awarded a War Pension as part of recognition of their service. We attach the details for our nuclear test veterans who have not yet applied for a War Pension. The BNTVA is working hard for multiple veterans who have come to us to represent and advocate for them in their War Pension Tribunals.
Appealing an existing decision
Being awarded a War Pension is a major step towards individual recognition of service and injury at the nuclear tests, and we are representing nuclear test veterans at their appeals; appeals should be made within 12 months after being turned down after an initial application or after 12 months if a good reason is given for the delay in appealing. Appeals must include:
• Your name, address and member/national insurance number
• The name and address of any representative
• An address where documents can be sent (this will normally be your home address)
• The date and details of the decision you want to appeal against
• Why you disagree with the decision
• Sign and date your correspondence.
If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland
You must complete an appeal form:
• For Scotland this must be sent to the Pensions Appeal Tribunal Scotland, the address is on the form
• For Northern Ireland the appeal form should be sent to Veterans UK. (GOV.UK)
