Talgarth and District Sports & Community Association
As you may be aware, Powys County Council has now transferred ownership of the land and buildings (including the play area) known as King George V playing fields to the Town Council. An organisation called TADSCA (Talgarth & District Sports & Community Organisation) has been created to rent the land from the Town Council. TADSCA has aspirations to enhance the existing facilities towards meeting the needs of sporting and community activities, for use by everyone, regardless of age and mobility.
Initial aspirations include the creation of a dedicated and appropriate playing surface for youth sport next to the existing football pitch and making the pavilion available to the wider community. The potential is wide-ranging and exciting, but today the fight is on to just keep the playground, land and buildings open. The football club are working very hard to raise the funds necessary to just keep things going and the rugby club are helping us maintain the pitches for youth sport which is great. However, we can't sit back and assume the work of others will keep things open. Without wider community energy and input this terrific facility will be lost.
At Talybont on Usk village Hall a passionate and dedicated community have come together and successfully obtained a £250,000 Big Lottery grant to create a new bike hub, trim trail (fitness route around the fields) and hall upgrade. If we can all come together in the same way, I can see no reason why we can't be equally successful. There is a chance to do something really special here, at a place that could be used every day for so many different activities, but without you the chance of a legacy that the community can be proud of will be missed.
Please email info@tadsca.co.uk to get involved and enjoy Talgarth Sports 2016.
