Herefordshire is where real food grows, and that’s the truth. Hugely agricultural, this makes for exceptional quality fruit, veg, meat and a wealth of producers and retailers that sell the very best from our green and pleasant land. Meet some of them here...
Frome Valley Vineyard is not only a destination for a tour and tasting, but they can also advise budding enthusiasts on the pro’s and cons on vine growing and wine making.
You really can’t leave Herefordshire without a cider tasting experience and where better than directly on a cider maker’s farm. Ty Gwyn near Ewyas Harold holds regular tours, talks and tasting and has a great shop for their award-winning beverage. And the risquely named Orgasmic Cider Company can arrange
a visit by appointment.
Have a full blown experience with the bigger boys at Weston’s Cider visitor centre where you can also have a ride in the original cider wagon of yesteryear,
but for a full history of Herefordshire’s cider making heritage, plus tastings of many brands, a fascinating tour of Hereford Cider Museum on the original Bulmers factory site is a must.
On to the fantastic food; Field Fayre in Ross on Wye is a colourful emporium specialising in all things organic and buy straight from the gate at Pengethley Farm Shop just outside Ross, with excellent cuts from their own cattle and other high welfare standard breeders, plus all the other locally sourced fresh foodie items you would expect from a vibrant farm shop.
