Explore the dramatic Borderlands of England and Wales with Rural Concierge.
Experience a rare blend of historical interest, fine scenery and rural life. The land here has been fought over since almost the beginning of history. Past dramas have left us a spectacular legacy of buildings nestling in the countryside blessed with abundant natural beauty. Through Rural Concierge you can now combine the Hidden Highway road route with the Heart of Wales Railway Line to make the most of the scenery in this romantic borderland area.
DAY ONE
Morning Arrive at Craven Arms train station for a mid-morning journey along
the Heart of Wales Railway Line. At this stage you can visit Stokesay Castle or the Discovery Centre at Craven Arms before travelling through the Borderlands including Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powys on one of the most rural and scenic journeys in Great Britain. Arrive at Victorian Spa Town Llandrindod Wells with free time to spend for lunch, and then pick up your transport for the onward journey.
Afternoon Board your transport and travel towards Rhayader. A typical Welsh
market town: the gateway to the picturesque Elan Valley Dams and Reservoirs. This makes for many a pretty picture for your camera, especially if you manage to catch a glimpse of the red kite that are in abundance in the area. You can even visit a farm that is the official Red Kite Feeding Station. Travel through the wild countryside to the town of Builth Wells, home to the main farming event of the year in Wales and the borders - the Royal Welsh Show, plus many other events through the year.
