DAILY/WEEKLY DUTIES & CHECKLISTS
Interior duties are to be rotated daily. One stewardess is responsible for each department: Laundry, crew mess and bridge. If there are additional duties, the second stewardess/chief stewardess should highlight these on the work-list or on the white board in the laundry.
Please see the checklists below.
We usually do a deep clean in all areas on a Monday, this is a good opportunity to complete a shopping list for the following: Crew food and drink, Laundry items, Cleaning items, Medical & Stationery. There are template shopping lists under Crew Provisioning. Please see appropriate chapter.
Captain’s linen is changed every Monday and his cabin gets a good clean – please treat it as a guest cabin. In addition to this, his cabin gets another clean (no linen change however) on a Friday. Please be courteous, and check his coffee machine and his mug and bin everyday.
Second stewardess is to check each area after completion, to make sure standards are being kept up. Also, special attention might be needed to specific areas.
Monthly duties are to be scheduled by the second or chief. These include, but not limited to: defrosting the freezers, disinfecting washing machines, cleaning inside seat storage, wiping all deckheads.
For a quick reference, please use the checklists which are laminated and available in the Laundry – these can be used to tick off jobs when complete – in order for the second stew to oversee.
It is good practice to have a schedule printed out for the rest of the interior team to review, in order to give them an idea of what needs to be completed in specific time frames. I prefer to set up a schedule, which depicts a few weeks ahead – as this will show boat movements, crew members holidays, crew movements (e.g. Chief engineer, handovers) and charter bookings. This will also allow the second stewardess to priorities certain jobs.
