Bordered by the River Wye, the beautiful gardens of The Weir sit within unspoilt Herefordshire countryside and have many historical secrets to uncover. For centuries this site has been used as a pleasure ground for fishing, boating and swimming.
It is managed in a natural way to create a varied habitat for wildlife. Meander through the peaceful and tranquil woodland gardens or stroll
into the walled garden and glasshouse.
Lovingly designed by previous owner Roger Parr in the 1920’s, the garden also contains interesting Roman archaeology, including an octagonal Roman well or cistern and the largest standing piece of Roman masonry
in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, thought to be part of a villa.
Enjoy the stunning riverside gardens all year; carpets of spring bulbs give way to beautiful wild flowers in the summer, then the colours change again in the autumn.
The walled-garden sees a mix of herbaceous borders and vegetables including onions, beans, beetroots and carrots, all available to buy from the visitor reception. The Weir is enjoyed by all, with regular family activities happening during school breaks.
A self-service tea tent offers locally produced cakes and light refreshments, or bring a picnic and enjoy it on the deckchairs by the river.
Open Weekends from 14-22 January. Daily from 28 January to 5 November. Admission Normal admission charges apply members and under 5’s go free.
