Symonds Yat
Further into south Herefordshire Symonds Yat straddles the River Wye, with its magnificent natural landscapes and beautiful wooded expanses. Stretching into the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) it is ideal for walking, cycling, climbing and river pursuits. Tackle the towering cliffs with adventure experts Summit Mountaineering or observe the Peregrine Falcons nesting on the cliff side from this scenic viewpoint. Cross the river on one of the two ancient hand pulled ferries or investigate the nearby ‘King Arthur’s Caves’ where archeological discoveries include the remains of a Saber-toothed Tiger.
The Wye Valley
An internationally important protected landscape, the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty spans the border between England and Wales and is cited as one of the most beautiful and scenic landscape areas in southern Britain. Renowned for its dense native woodlands and captivating wildlife, the beautiful River Wye, the fifth-longest river in the UK, meanders through this predominately rural area.
This spring the Wye Valley River Festival celebrates nature, culture, landscape and life with events along the riverside. Popular with walkers, canoeists and nature lovers its picturesque scenery is enjoyed by visitors from all around the world.
