In Praise of Speaking Up
The rewards of speaking up far outweigh the risks.
You're basically invisible until you speak up.
Nobody really notices you're there until you say
something. And then, suddenly, you're visible. People
acknowledge your presence and start paying attention
to what you're saying.
It's kind of like being in a meeting. You can sit there
silently, and nobody will really notice you. But the
moment you contribute to the conversation, people
start looking at you, listening to what you have to say,
and responding to your comments.
You Are a Genius Until You Open Your Mouth
And then there's that other thing: the benefit of the
doubt. People tend to think you're a genius until you
