“What do you think a motivational speaker does?”
I asked. “Besides all the fancy stuff?”
Tourists everywhere. Grannies, kids, big guys, big
girls, families. Shorts, shades, selfies. Vegas in full
swing.
“Motivate people. Right? ”
“ … or inspire, or transform or challenge them.” I
added.
“Sorry. Am I bothering you?”
Eye contact in the mirror. “Would you do this job if
you didn't get paid for it?” I asked.
“Probably not."
“Twenty-plus years speaking,” I said. “Never met a
truly great speaker who wasn’t flat-out obsessed. With
a purpose and a message burning inside them.
Purpose first. Always expanding. Always wanting to
connect. To help people get it. Yeah, the paycheck’s
nice. But that’s not the fuel.”
“Then what is it?” Relief in that question. Getting
to the good stuff.
“To share a message. To plant a seed in those who
need to hear it. Maybe even change something.
