EARTH ANGELS & MAGIC MOMENTS
"No, it doesn’t. This is serious,” Miriam said. “This
place is filthy and disgusting and dangerous.” Her
eyes darted toward a creaking sound from the side of
the building.
An old African man in greasy overalls shuffled out
from a side door. A tall young woman in a red, black,
and white African dress carrying a baby followed him
out and stood under the light.
The old man came up to the car.
“Sorry lady. No petrol.”
Miriam slumped against the Golf. “Jesus. Now
what?”
“Ya madam,” The old man tutted. “Jesus indeed. If
you want petrol you need a miracle. There's been no
petrol here for two years now.”
“Grandpa.”
“It’s alright Tilly.”
“No, Grandpa, look.” The girl holding the baby
pointed to the road.
In the twilight, an old green farm truck with half a
dozen men in the back rolled on to the forecourt.
“Go inside Tilly. You know what to do. Go now.”
