Divine Spark Rising
“Battery?” Henry asked, hating the smallness of
the word.
“Body,” Jinji answered. “Even ghosts get tired.”
She glanced left, then right, as if checking flanks.
“One last thing. When you reach the inner dais —
the Glass Room’s parent — Sofia will fold
confession into command. She’ll trade truth for
obedience. It will sound holy.” Jinji leaned close,
voice low. “Say nothing smart. Do something small
and unforgivable instead.”
“Like what?” Carolina asked.
“Touch the wrong thing. Spill. Laugh. Forgive
the enemy before they earn it,” Jinji said.
“Anything a model can’t respect.”
Sera nodded. “That I can do.”
Jinji looked at each of them with the old
tenderness that made Henry weak at inconvenient
hours. “When you find Serpa,” she said, as if
certainty, “tell him the word held.”
Henry swallowed. “If he can’t hear us—”
“He will,” Jinji said. “Even if he doesn’t know he
did.”
Her image thinned, brightened briefly, then
went to quiet the way good advice does — not
gone, just done.
