“Well,” he said with a grin,
“there is one thing.”
I raised my eyebrows.
“What’s that?”
I waited while he sipped
at his glass of red wine.
“I have an account at
Tiffany.”
Intrigued, I asked him to tell me more.
“A couple of weeks after clients move into their new
home, they receive a small package via FedEx. Inside is a
silver key engraved with their names, their new address,
and the date they made the purchase. Enclosed alongside
the beautiful Tiffany box is a simple thank-you card from
me. There is no mention of my name or anything to do
with business anywhere, except on the card.”
What a classy thing to do! The new owners will tell the
story of how they received the gift, and the Realtor stays
alive in their minds. Not only has he attached himself to a
world-class brand, but this simple gift is out there, like a
foot soldier, working away on his behalf.
Not everyone can afford to shop at Tiffany—and even
if you can, a gift like this may not be appropriate in your
