NICHOLAS BOOTHMAN
Chapter 1:
The Red Alert
The buzzing started low, a persistent hum beneath
the surface. Like a mosquito you couldn't quite swat.
Billie ignored it. She always did. Ignoring things was
her superpower. Or so she told herself.
6:03 AM. The digital numbers on her alarm clock
glowed a vengeful red. Another day. Another climb.
Another mountain of… stuff. Stuff that needed doing.
Stuff that screamed for attention. Stuff that felt like it
was slowly crushing her.
She slapped the snooze button. Not once. Not
twice. Three times. Each press a tiny act of rebellion
against the inevitable. Five more minutes. Five stolen
moments of oblivion before the onslaught began.
