Chapter 11:
The Public Discrediting
Evelyn. The Cage. The Looming Threat.
The words echoed in Evelyn’s mind: "Prepare the
'demonstration'."
What did he mean? A public execution? A
televised confession? The sterile white room offered
no clues, only the relentless hum of the lights and the
cold, unyielding silence. Her captors, the two lab
coats, had left, leaving her alone with her dread.
She tried to enter The Stillness, to find her internal
sanctuary, but the fear was too pervasive. The memory
of the brain probes, the searing pain, the feeling of her
mind being violated – it clung to her, a chilling
reminder of their power.
She was a prisoner. A pawn. And soon, she would
be a spectacle.
