Chapter 17:
The Iron Beast
The Chamber. The Roar of the Drone.
The drone rolled into the chamber, its massive
form filling the doorway, its optical sensors glowing
like evil eyes. It was a beast of steel and circuits,
armed with multiple weapon systems, its heavy treads
grinding against the concrete floor. The low, guttural
growl of its internal mechanisms vibrated through the
air.
"Intruders identified," a synthesized, metallic
voice boomed from the drone. "Engaging threat
protocols."
Liam stared at the monstrous machine. His mind,
still reeling from Evelyn’s near-death, struggled to
process the new, overwhelming threat.
Vega moved. He shoved Liam behind the gurney
where Evelyn lay. "Stay down! Protect her!"
