you have over your life. If you have an 'internal locus of
control', you tend to believe that you can control your
outcomes and destiny. If you have an 'external locus of
control', you tend to believe that pressures outside of you
control your life and destiny.
He was leaning heavily on that external locus. It's a
common thing. Easier to blame the outside world than
to take responsibility.
It wasn't about the caffeine, not really. It was about
the mindset. About the way he saw himself.
People like to give away their power. They find
comfort in believing they're at the mercy of forces beyond
their control. But that's a dangerous path.
Because even in the smallest things, there's a choice.
A decision. And those choices, those decisions, they add
up. They define you.
My friend in the truck? He had a choice. He just
didn't see it. Or maybe he was afraid to. And that, in a
way, is a kind of tragedy."

As we grow older, it becomes clear that we always
have a choice in life. It's like this big neon sign flashing in
front of us saying, "Hey, you're in charge!" When you
start dodging those choices, you're actually relinquishing
responsibility and choosing to let other people or
circumstances call the shots on your destiny.
