Chapter 18
The Screaming Hill
In March 1979, Wendy and I purchased and moved
into a big house in Toronto with our three children. We
were living the dream, or so it seemed. But as the years
went by, the pressures of success, the stress of providing
for a growing family, and the emptiness of material
pursuits started to take their toll. Despite the outward
trappings of success, I couldn't shake the feeling that
something was missing. Even as I achieved more and
more, the sense of fulfillment and purpose seemed to
elude me.
It was only when we took the bold leap, seven years
later, to leave behind the comforts of our city life and
embrace the simplicity of a farmhouse on 130 acres that I
began to grasp what had been eluding me. We
exchanged a grand house in the heart of Toronto for a
more rustic existence, trading material possessions for
the promise of a more authentic life. "Wendy had found a
