"I think I've found a fresh way to approach a popular
topic."
"So, if you were hired to do a photo shoot of a speaker
with an audience, what would you do?" She asked.
"Simple, I'd book space at a local hotel, hire an actor,
and invite a bunch of people to come and listen."
"So, what are you waiting for?"
By noon, I'd rented half of the ballroom at our local
Holiday Inn and invited a bunch of friends, clients,
models, and advertising agency friends to come and hear
me talk about Rapport by Design, a souped-up version
of the talk I gave to the photographers.
"Twenty-nine bucks a head," I told them, "and bring
your friends." Over eighty people showed up. I was
buzzed. Now I was a professional speaker—but it was
going nowhere, and because I'd pushed my photography
aside, my income had taken a nosedive.
What was missing? I researched what makes other
speakers successful, and it hit me like a champagne cork.
A book! And preferably a best-seller with a killer title. I'd
never written anything coherent in my life, but that
wasn't going to stop me. I burned a bridge, so I couldn't
go back. I traded in my cameras for a laptop and started
to write—but I didn't have a clue where to start, and
