Chapter 7
A Flowpath
There was a big crowd between us and the bar now,
and when we got up, the owner just flicked the back of
his hand at Thomas from behind the counter. I guess it
meant settle-up later.
I followed him down the main street toward the
beach. We sat on a bench and stared at the sea. There
was no one around; they were all watching the game.
The sun was quickly setting, casting glimmering hues
across shimmery lights strung between each swaying
tree nearby. The square was set up and waiting for the
crowd to return and celebrate.
“Seen from way out in space Nicko, this earth of ours
looks like a little blue marble rolling around under that
sun there,” he said. “A tiny, isolated, vulnerable ball of
life, hanging in the vast expanse of space, shielded and
nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. In reality, this
planet is a single, self-regulating organism where every
living thing flows together striving to find an optimum
balance for harmony and peace. It sounds crazy, but it‘
s
true.
