 The Truth About Lying
Henry had fought his whole life to escape the label of “liar,” only to be given a much heavier, permanent title by the very revolution he started.
He looked at Vincent.
Vincent turned his back and picked up a piece of the shattered satellite dish.
“Verax is dead,” he said quietly.
He looked at Jinji, who returned to erasing the last memory of Verax.
Henry stood alone.
Exiled.
With a plan no one could accept and a name no one would trust.
His phone buzzed. Against all logic, it was Claire.
I saw the broadcast. Are you okay?
He stared at the message. The Truth Mandate would force him to answer honestly.
He typed:
No. I’m the most hated man alive and I deserve it. Three dots appeared.
Then:
Rachel says you always had a martyr complex. She also says you’re probably right about the Tiered system, but you’re going about it all wrong. You can’t force people to accept a better lie. You have to show them.
