 The Truth About Lying
Henry nodded. The pressure was building, not forcing its way in but waiting. Asking permission.
The text returned:
CURATOR TRANSMISSION READY
CONSENT REQUIRED FOR PSYCHIC INTERFACE ACCEPT? Y/N
“Psychic interface,” Vincent said. “It wants inside our heads.”
“We don’t have a choice,” Henry said. “If we refuse, we learn nothing. And whatever this is, it already stopped the missiles. It can override our technology. Our weapons. Maybe our will.”
“So we just let it in?” Jinji demanded. “Let some alien AI root around in our consciousness?”
“It’s not AI,” Henry said, staring at the rotating symbol. He was certain. “It’s something else. Something that’s been watching us for a very long time.”
Vincent said nothing.
Whatever this was, it did not feel artificial.
It felt old.
Not like intelligence arriving.
Like something that had been here all along.
Henry had spent his life studying human patterns, trauma, confession, self-deception.
This wasn’t human.
It felt older than language.
