Henry took a breath. "Because I helped a company cover up forty-seven deaths. And when their chief engineer called me to tell me I was complicit in murder, I couldn't argue with her."
Claire nodded slowly. "The Cerulean thing."
"You knew?"
"I'm your sister, Henry. I pay attention. Even when you don't." She leaned back in her chair. "So what now? You quit your job.”
He filled his wine glass.
"I want to build something.”
He sniffed his wine, then downed it in one go.
“A system that makes lying impossible."
Claire laughed. Not a happy laugh. "Jesus, Henry. You don't do anything small, do you?"
"I'm serious."
"That's what scares me." She stood up and started clearing plates. "You spend fifteen years helping people lie professionally. Now you want to force everyone to tell the truth? You see there might be a problem there, right?"
"What problem?"
She turned to face him. "You. You're not qualified to be the truth police. You're the last person who should be building this."
