 The Truth About Lying
Not all truth was justice.
Not all lies were evil.
And a man like him, freshly ashamed and desperate to be clean, might be the worst possible person to decide the difference.
“So help me,” he said. Claire stared at him. “No.”
“Claire...”
“No. Not with this. Not yet.” She pointed at him. “You don’t need a system tonight. You need to tell the truth once and survive it.”
“I wrote a resignation email.”
“That was a headline. I’m talking about a confession.” He knew what she meant.
“Cerulean.”
“Everything.”
“That could ruin me.”
“Yes.”
He almost laughed.
There was no humor in it.
Claire leaned forward.
“You want to make hiding impossible? Start with yourself. Write down what you did. Names. Dates. Companies. Lies you sold. People you hurt. Don’t polish it. Don’t frame it. Don’t make yourself tragic. Just write it.”
