“Enough,” Henry snapped. “Who are you?”
“Patience, Henry. Deep breaths.” A pause stretched between them, heavy and cold. “Three years ago, I handed a defense contractor the keys to a 'truth' engine. I sold them on a 93.7% accuracy rate. Sounds impressive, doesn't it? In my world, that 6.3% is a graveyard.”
They used it in Afghanistan. My system flagged a detainee as 'high-probability deceptive.' It saw his spiking heart rate and erratic galvanic skin response and labeled it a lie. It didn't account for a pre-existing heart condition or the sheer terror of the room. It just saw data points that didn't fit the model.
He went into cardiac arrest under 'enhanced questioning.' The official report cited natural causes. They don't use the word torture when they have an algorithm to provide cover.”
