Chapter 5:
The Great Unmasking
The Gaze wasn't just an app anymore. It was an
addiction.
In the three weeks since its quiet launch, Lina’s
creation had gone from a fringe tool to a global
necessity. People downloaded it because they were
desperate, kept it because it was cold-bloodedly
honest, and they trusted it because it was the only
thing that didn’t ask for their trust. It just gave them
the numbers.
Every time a politician lied on camera, ten thousand
people would scan the transcript through The Gaze,
and within seconds, the truth, the "Actual Result,”
would flash up in harsh red text, proving the statement
was 90% Truth Tax evasion. The old machine could still
produce mountains of comfortable lies, but The Gaze
acted like a universal radiation detector, screaming
when exposed to falsehood.
