 The Truth About Lying
“No,” Vincent said. “That’s the danger. Truth without judgment is exposure. Truth without mercy is violence. Truth without relationship is just another form of control.”
The words settled.
Henry didn’t like them because he knew they were true. Jinji leaned forward.
“Corporations kill people and bury it. Governments lie us into wars. Abusers hide behind charm. Predators hide behind manners. And your answer is mercy?”
“My answer is discernment.”
“Discernment doesn’t scale.”
“Neither does wisdom,” Vincent said. “That has always been the problem.”
Claire sat beside Henry.
“You need to hear him.”
“I am.”
“No. You’re collecting objections so you can design around them.”
She was right.
That was exactly what he was doing.
Jinji opened her laptop again.
“Fine,” she said. “Let’s make this practical.”
The interface filled the screen. A microphone icon. A thin horizontal meter.
“I don’t want theory. I want a test.” Henry’s pulse quickened.
